The 2022 MG HS Plus EV plug-in hybrid medium SUV has been hit by a price rise for the fourth time this year.

It is now priced from $49,690 drive-away for the entry-level Excite and $52,690 drive-away for the flagship Essence – up $1000 from the previous increase on July 1.

  • Price increases for non-hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants

The cost of entry into a 2022 MG HS medium SUV has risen by $1000, with the entry-level Core deleted from the local range.

Speaking with Wheels, a spokesperson for MG Motor Australia confirmed the Core – priced from $30,990 drive-away – had been discontinued from the HS line-up.

It previously occupied the most affordable position in the range, with a sub-$30k list price achieved with cloth upholstery, a polyurethane steering wheel and a basic four-speaker sound system.

With the Core axed, the HS medium SUV range now opens with the slightly dearer HS Vibe, advertised for $31,990 drive-away.

While pricing for the new base variant has remained unchanged, the Excite, Excite X, Essence, Essence Anfield and Essence X grades are $1000 dearer.

Meanwhile, the MG HS Plus EV plug-in hybrid is up by $2700 across the board since an updated model launched in March 2022, bringing a more-affordable Excite variant.

Metallic paint is now standard for the plug-in hybrid, with the deletion of the non-metallic clipper blue finish.

There have been no specification changes for existing HS variants in 2022.

The plug-in hybrid MG HS Plus EV reverts to front-wheel drive, with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, an electric motor on the front axle, and a 16.6kWh lithium-ion battery.

It is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, split between a traditional six-speed unit for the petrol engine and a four-speed electronic drive unit for the electric motor.

Combined outputs are 189kW of power and 370Nm of torque.
