Kia Australia is recalling more than 31,000 examples of its Sorento and Sportage SUVs over a fire risk.

The issue affects Sorentos manufactured between 2015 and 2020, and Sportages between 2016 and 2021.

In total 31,074 cars are included in the notice.

According to the Department for Infrastructure, due to a software issue, the heater core element may operate at a higher temperature than intended – causing damage to the connector, which could in turn result in a vehicle fire.

Owners can contact their local Kia dealership to schedule an appointment to have the HVAC control unit software updated and the heater core element and connector inspected and replaced if damaged.
