Mahindra has previewed five of its upcoming electric SUVs, giving us a glimpse of the future models set to share the Volkswagen Group's MEB platform.

It was recently announced that a strategic alliance between India’s Mahindra and Germany’s Volkswagen Group will expand in scope, with Volkswagen Group set to provide its MEB-platform electric components to aid a new bespoke EV platform in development by Mahindra.

The supply agreement intends to produce more than one million units over its manufacturing lifetime, with the release hinting that “five all-electric SUVs with MEB components” are in the pipeline.

Mahindra and Volkswagen Group will continue to explore further opportunities for technical collaboration, open to a broader strategic alliance to accelerate the growing electrification movement within the Indian automotive market.

Mahindra’s purpose-built EV platform, INGLO, was showcased at the Mahindra Born EV vision event in Banbury, UK, envisaged to contain Volkswagen’s MEB components – including the electric drivetrain, battery system and Volkswagen’s unified cell.

The Term Sheet covers all major commercial and technical terms, along with a potential areas of collaboration within the electric mobility space. Possible paths include; vehicle projects, localised manufacturing of the battery system, and energy solutions for the electric ecosystem in India.

Negotiations of the final supply agreement are set to be wrapped up by the end of 2022.

India is one of the five largest automobile markets in the world, along with China - the only region to record an increase in national new registrations over the first half of 2022. The electric vehicle sphere, in particular, is increasingly pertinent for carmakers, as both markets are expected to gain significant momentum in the coming years.
