It’s a serious battle of the heavyweights in the final edition of our Milwaukee Street Machine of the Year 2021 video chats, with Billy Shelton’s single-turbo LS VL Commodore going up against Colin Byrne’s internet-breaking Land Cruiser 200 Series burnout machine.
Billy’s VL hasn’t been on the scene for long, but it’s already made a serious impact since its unveiling at Rockynats over Easter this year. It took home Top Comp, Best Engine Bay, 2nd Top Paint and a Top 10 plate at that event, and just recently nabbed the Grand Champion gong at Red CentreNATS #7.
Despite the quality of finish inside and out, Billy isn’t afraid to use the car. To date, the 1000rwhp, single-turbo LS1 combo has run a PB of 8.39@163mph, and Billy’s been known to take the car to roll racing events just as often as the show ’n’ shine hall.
Billy’s VL is facing some stiff competition in this final round, because Colin Byrne’s jaw-dropping 200 Series Land Cruiser burnout car broke the internet when the covers were pulled off at Motorvation in Perth earlier this year.
Colin has been around the burnout scene for nearly 15 years now, and had been looking for a fresh build for a while. He started with a fire-damaged, written-off Cruiser, sold off the bits he didn’t need and basically broke even on the car before he’d even started.
Underneath is a full custom-fabricated chassis, as it was the only way to achieve that killer stance. An Enderle Bird Catcher hat pokes out of the bonnet, sitting atop an 8/71 blower and a 1200hp, 540-cube big-block Chev.
